Without the proper business plan, it is unlikely that the state board will grant the general contractor a license to operate. As soon as the business plan is submitted to the board, you will need to wait up to ninety days before you can begin the construction process. During this time, it is imperative that you develop a contract that contains all of the details of the project including an accurate budget.
The final step in obtaining a professional permit as a general contractor is to submit the completed business plan and bond to the state board. Once all three of these steps have been completed, you will be required to sit for an interview with the state licensing board. At this point, you will be required to demonstrate that your construction skills are at the very least adequate to meet the requirements of your state.
